Company director Chris Marley lost his hair to raise cash for the Stand up to Cancer campaign.

Chris, 40, director of Bridport Glass and Tile Centre Ltd, volunteered to have his locks shaved off at a charity fundraiser at the company offices in St Michael’s Trading Estate.

Thanks to his selfless sacrifice, a raffle, refreshments and staff in fancy dress, the campaign is nearly £300 better off.

It has raised £14.5 million so far in the battle against cancer.

However, the company boss says he has been feeling the chill on his bonce ever since.

Mr Marley said: “Loads of people donated, we had hot dogs, tea, coffee and then at 4pm in the afternoon I shaved my head “I think there is not one of us who has not been touched by cancer and I think it is the least you can do, that is why I did it.

“We got a lot of good reaction.

“Although I didn’t have particularly long hair I am finding it a bit draughty.

“I have no plans to keep the shaved look but it was brilliant fun. We all had a good laugh and raised some cash at the same time.”

Pat Blake, manager of the Cancer Research Shop in East Street, said it was a ‘phenomenal effort’.

She said: “It was an incredible amount and it is a big thing having your head shaved, especially at this time of year.

“Obviously the fact that we raised £14.5 million so far for Stand up to Cancer and that’s made of lots of people like Chris getting his head shaved and sitting in baked beans and things like that, and that’s incredible.

“Stand up to Cancer is bringing forward the day when all cancers are cured, that is what we are saying about the Stand up to Cancer campaign.”
