FESTIVE revellers braved the wet and windy weather as Christmas lights were turned on in Lyme Regis.

The annual event included the return of the popular lantern making workshop and parade - before the town's festive lights were turned on to get the Christmas season in Lyme Regis well and truly up and running.

Youngsters tried their hand at creating lanterns during a workshop at the Baptist Church, before parading their lanterns down Broad Street. Despite the Lyme Regis Majorettes suffering a technical problem with their van, the parade continued with the group following.

Mia Huntley was awarded the Starlight Cup by Judith and Colin Pothecary for her lantern, while the Lymelight Cup was awarded to the group effort for Brenda's Crackers.

Jack Saunders and Evie Green were also among those awarded for their lanterns.

Mayor of Lyme Regis, Cllr Owen Lovell and town crier Alan Vian led the festivities for the switch-on of the Christmas lights, before the procession moved along the Cart Road, where Christmas lights at the Cobb were also turned on.

Music was provided along Broad Street by Wessex Star disco, while the Lyme Luggers ukulele group also performed.
