A dog plunged 20m off a cliff.

It prompted a tricky rescue operation on Christmas Day.

Coastguard teams from both Lyme Regis and Beer raced to the scene of the incident at Pinhay Bay, west of Lyme Regis, on Monday afternoon after the dog was reported stuck 25m below the cliff edge.

The pup was successfully saved and reunited with its owner after the team used a full rope rescue system.

Coastguards issued advice calling for dogs to be kept on their lead near cliffs.

A spokesperson from Lyme Regis Coastguard said: “Tasked with Beer Coastguard Rescue Team to dog stuck 25m below cliff edge at Pinhay Bay. Dog located by Lyme Regis Lifeboat Team. Dog successfully recovered using full rope rescue system. Please keep your dog on lead near cliffs."
