Gusts of 50mph are expected as yellow weather warning has been issued for the county

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind due to strong winds and large coastal waves that may lead to hazardous conditions.

The warning will be in place from 7am tomorrow (Thursday, March 28) until 6pm that evening.

Strong winds of up to 50mph will be accompanied by heavy showers with the possibility of hail and thunder in some locations.

According to the Met Office, there could be a small chance of longer journey times or cancellations, as road, rail, air and ferry services will be affected.

They also report that there is a ‘small chance’ that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.

Some roads and bridges could also close.

There is also a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.

The warning is in place across the south of the country. If you are planning to travel, a spokesperson from the Met Office issued advice saying: “Gusts of wind can unsettle vehicles – grip your steering wheel firmly with both hands. This is particularly important when planning to overtake.

“Keep an eye out for gaps between trees, buildings or bridges over a river or railway – these are some of the places you are more likely to be exposed to side winds. Ensure that you maintain enough room either side of your vehicle so you can account for it being blown sideways.
