Mixed Section

DAVE Howat produced a fine nett 67 to take the spoils in the Mixed Midweek Medal.

Some excellent weather attracted a higher than usual turnout of 21 players (all male) for the event.

And there were two nett scores in the 60s, with winner Howat (16) returning to the clubhouse having carded a gross round of 83.

In second place, just two shots behind, was Jimmy Gbadebo (82-13=69), while Peter May was third (100-28=72).

The lowest gross score of 80 came from junior Kieran Mulhall.

Veterans’ Section

THE veterans had a home match versus Parkstone so the competition for the section on Thursday was a single division, self-entry Stableford.

In contrast to the men’s midweek medal, the field for this event was smaller than usual with just 39 entrants.

However, a fine score of 42 points saw Chris Roberts (20) take top spot, and three points behind him was runner-up Bryan Holmes (19).

Third, four points back, was Keith Brown (13), who finished ahead of Richard Fox (18) on count-back.

In that match against Parkstone, Bridport triumphed 5-1.

Before that the veterans had gone to Dudsbury only to lose 4.5-1.5.

Ladies’ Section

FIFA World Cup teams reunited at Bridport Golf Club this week, or so it seemed, writes Rosemary Shepherd.

For her Ladies’ Captain’s Day, Liz Walker chose the theme of the World Cup and the women entered into the spirit of the day by dressing up to represent the various countries that reached the finals in Brazil.

The competition was a 4BBB but with penalties and bonuses more usually associated with football.

The winners of the best dressed team were those in blue and white kit representing Greece – heavily disguised under black wigs were Heather Chapman, Heather Boyle, Linda Knapp and Helen Campbell.

On the course, the victors were Sue Walsh and Di Loving, representing Spain, with 47 points.

The next three teams all had 44 points and second place on count-back went to Chapman and Boyle.

Sylvia Delve and Sue Winkle were third and Julie Oliver and Rosanne Bonfield were fourth.

The annual club contest for the Castree Cup took place on Saturday and for this event ladies invite a gentleman to partner them in a flag competition.

Caroline McAllister and Steve Crabb were the winning pair after reaching the first green with their final shot.

Meanwhile, the club hosted a Mixed Open Greensomes on Sunday, with Caroline and John Maskell (Crane Valley) taking first place on 41 points.

Second was Jeanne Basely (Knighton Heath) and Roger French (Ferndown) with 40, and third was Margaret and Mike Thompson (Bridport) on 40.
