BRIDPORT 3 SHEPTON MALLET 2

CHRIS Clarke's second-half winner took Bridport up to sixth in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division table, as the Bees came from behind to claim successive victories for the first time this season.

Trevor Senior's side made a lightning quick start to the game at St Mary's Field with a goal inside the opening minute.

After robbing the visitors of possession, Adam Symes played the ball through for Warren Byerley and his centre was converted by Jamie Symes.

But from being 1-0 up, the Bees were 2-1 down when Shepton scored from the spot following a foul by Adam Symes and then home keeper Ashley Weeks let a cross squirm through his clutches and into the net.

However, it was 2-2 before the break, Tom Richardson scoring from a Dan Wise corner.

Ten minutes into the second half Bridport got what was to prove the winning goal.

Another Wise cross was met on the half-volley by man of the match Chris Senior and Clarke reacted quickest to score.

“I thought that was the best we've played for 90 minutes all season,” said Bees' boss Senior.

“We defended really well, Tom Richardson and Warren Byerley worked hard up front, and it was a good all-round team performance.

“We started quickly and could have been 3-0 or 4-0 up in the first half, but we conceded a soft penalty and then one Ashley will want to forget.

“But we fought back well and kept pressing them to win the ball, and we got the three points in the end.”
