THIS weekend will see the water at Lyme Regis taken over once again with high-powered race boats and adrenaline-seeking water skiers.

Round Three of the British Water Ski Racing Championships is again being hosted by the Lyme Regis Power Boat Club (LRPBC) on Sunday, in conjunction with the British Water Ski and Wakeboard Federation.

Teams from all over the country will be arriving in Lyme Regis over the weekend, readily preparing for the competition.

Water ski racing is a high adrenaline endurance water sport, where competitors must race against each other for up to 55 minutes and at speeds which can reach in excess of 80 miles per hour in the main race.

Racing starts with the children’s Brit Kids race, which will be testing the water at 10.30am before the main race starts at 11.20am.

The main race will see F1, F2 and F3 classified boats take to the course competing for pole position.

After an hour’s racing it will be the turn of the support race at 12.40pm, which includes the lady, senior and junior competitors.

Having already competed at Hunstanton, Kent and Allhallows, Essex, for rounds one and two, teams will be ready to make their mark on the leaderboard, with everything to play for.

Five LRPBC members will be racing on the day, hoping that being on home water will give them the advantage.

The prizegiving will be hosted at the LRPBC clubhouse at 3pm.

To learn more about the sport or how to get involved, visit the club and speak to a committee member Pamela Evans, a LRPBC committee member, said: “We have hosted a race in Lyme for many years now. For a great spectator spot, the Cobb wall or the clubhouse will offer the best views.”
