GRAHAM Hunt clinched the Men’s Club Championship at Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club after two days of fierce competition.

The event, which incorporated the Peter Ridler Cup and Fraser Mercer Cup, featured more than 50 players in total.

In the end, Hunt came out on top with rounds of 78 and 82, giving him an aggregate scratch score over 36 holes of 160.

Matt Gale equalled Hunt’s first-round score but an 84 in his second round saw him finish two shots back.

The Peter Ridler Cup for the best handicap aggregate score of 141 was won by Lewis Craddock, who scored 81-11=70 and 82-11=71.

Runner-up with 143 was Pat Hart (85-13=72 and 84-13=71).

The Fraser Mercer Cup, for the best aggregate scratch score for players with a handicap of 14 or over, was won by Ian Thacker (14) with 84 and 89.

His 173 was seven clear of Phil Dowell (16) with an 87 and a 93 giving him a total of 180.

TWENTY-THREE pairs took to the course for the Luton Ladle, a greensome Stableford off reduced aggregate handicap.

The closely-cut greens and fairways are beginning to suffer from the recent dry weather but conditions on the day were ideal.

The scoring reflected the friendly conditions and the top three teams all carded scores in the 40s.

The team of Phil Dowell (15) and Dave Rendell (20) edged Howard Bonfield (16) and Dave Cotgrove (27) into second place on countback.

Both teams scored 41 points.

Vets’ secretary Brian Savery (19) and Keith Peraux (22) took third place with 40 points.

Ladies’ Section

THE Saturday Cup, a Stableford competition, was won by Di Harris (36 points) on countback, writes Di Neal.

Second was Sally Woolmington (36pts), with Sara Dunn third with 33.

Meanwhile, 21 players enjoyed glorious weather for the Midsummer Madness competition.

The trophy was won by Pat Baldwin with a magnificent score of 38 points.

Three members had 34 points so countback was needed to separate winner Sandra March, second placed Liz Walker and Di Neal, who was third.

On Wednesday, three ladies, Liz Thompson, Sue Kelson and Di Edwards, travelled to Broadstone to play in the county’s Parkin Cup.

The team were successful and have now reached the semi- finals.
