BRIDPORT & West Dorset Golf Club captain Andy Dennis was part of a three-man team that won Sunday’s Texas Scramble.

Fifteen teams took part on a morning where the weather was much better than predicted.

The winning team, with a score of 65-3.4=61.6, was made up of Dennis (6), head greenkeeper Chris Tozer (9) and past club captain Dave Rendell (19).

Lewis Craddock (10), Pat Hart (13) and Mike Barter (17) scored 66-4=62 to take second and Mike Savage (9), Roy Ormsby (19) and Mark McMaster (21) with 67-4.9=62.1, were third.

Veterans’ Section

THE Thursday competition was the fifth round of the Holmes Cup.

In Division One, just six places down the list, nett scores started reaching the high 70s.

The winner of that division with a score of 72 was Vincent Adams and he nudged Dave Rendell into second on countback.

Adams’ gross score was seven shots better than his closest rival.

Scores were slightly better in Division Two and the winner with 71 was Tony Burwood, who also came out on top after countback. Dave Cole finished in second place.

Division One: 1 (acb) Vince Adams 79-7=72, 2 Dave Rendell 91-19=72, 3 Keith Brown 86-13=73, 4 Peter Davies 93-19=74.

Division Two: 1 (acb) Tony Burwood 94-23=71, 2 Dave Cole 98-27=71, 3 Dave Smith 94-22=72, 4 Bob Dennis 94-21=73.

Cole’s handicap was cut by one shot.

Ladies’ Section

MEMBERS played for the Bush Plate and the Stephen Cup, a Stableford competition for players with a handicap of 36.

MEDAL RESULT

Division One: 1 Nicky Stone 77-7=70, 2 Ruth Donovan 90-17=73, 3 Toshiko Ricketts 90-16=74.

Division Two: 1 Sally Woolmington 101-25=76 (acb), 2 Viv Gill 102-26=76, 3 Carol Horne 105-27=78.

Division Three: 1 Liz Wilson 98-30=68, 2 Heather Chapman 105-32=73, 3 Avril Brown 112-35=77.

The Bush Plate was won by Liz Wilson with a nett 68, earning her a two-shot handicap cut.

The winner of the Stephens Cup was Di Neal with 31 points followed by Sandy Moger on 27 and third was Jenny Conway with 26.

The club also held its Junior Open on Sunday.

Broadstone’s Harvey Randall was the winner with a score of 78-8=70. Mark Rankin (Weymouth) was second on countback but won the prize for best gross score. Jacob Tidswell was third (86-15=71).

The girls’ prize was won by Scarlett Williams (95-20=75) and the best score from a Bridport player was by Ben Carruthers, who was fourth with 91-18=73.
