BRIDPORT interim boss Mark Carter insists he would rather a permanent managerial appointment was made at the club, sooner rather than later.

Carter has taken control of the side on a temporary basis since the departure of Trevor Senior from St Mary’s Field earlier this month, as the club look for the right candidate to take the role full time.

The current manager is set to remain in charge when the Bees travel to Gillingham Town in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division tomorrow (7.45pm).

“I think the club need to address it really, whoever comes in needs to speak to the players,” he said, when asked about the Bees’ managerial situation.

“I am not going to use it as an excuse, but within them all, there is the unknown with what’s happening, it could possibly be affecting them a little bit.

“The uncertainty is possibly not helping.

“They need a manager to come in and say, ‘right, these are my plans for next year’.

“I am just trying to prepare them, the same as I did with Trevor for each game.”

Asked if the playing squad have enquired with him on the search for a new permanent boss, Carter said: “Everyone keeps asking! Everyone I speak to says ‘what’s happening down there?’.”

Ryan Dovell and Matt Condliffe are both unavailable for tomorrow's game against the Gills through work commitments.

The Bees will be looking to bounce back having lost 4-1 to Dorset rivals Sherborne Town on Saturday.
