IT SEEMS everyone is talking about Leicester City’s achievements this season but maybe it’s time to look a little closer to home.

BRIDPORT Under-15s have sealed a league and cup double.

The side, managed by Greg Tuck and assistant-coach Fred Etherington, won the County Cup after beating a strong Poole Town side 1-0.

After their success in the cup, Bridport then secured a superb double as they lifted the Division Two crown after a commanding 10-2 victory over Swanage Town & Herston.

The win meant they sealed the title with two games to spare and it also kept up their impressive unbeaten record that stretches back to the start of their campaign, which has seen them score 80 goals but concede just 12 all season.

Poole had brushed aside all-comers on the road to the County Cup final.

However, Bridport deserved some credit for all their hard work and effort that they have put in to create a great team.

The Bridport side turned up well prepared and with a solid belief in themselves as a team – this was the key factor in winning the game.

From the start, it was clear that Poole had a well-drilled side and they set out to pass their way to victory.

Bridport tackled well and after 20 minutes it was obvious that this game was in no way the walkover so many believed it would be.

Harry Angel, Manny Ramsey and Dan Elliott in the midfield bossed the Poole playmakers and kept them pinned down. A calm and focused performance from the back four also made sure opportunities for Poole were stifled.

Chances for Bridport did come but were limited to two or three in the first half.

The second half started as the first half ended with both sides challenging for every ball.

The referee played the advantage well and this kept the game flowing.

Poole had chance after chance but an inspired goalkeeping performance from the Bridport number one kept his side in the game.

It was Bridport who were to have the decisive moment as Jaydon Brown broke the deadlock late on. Daley Holmes’ pass found Brown who coolly slotted the ball home.

With only four minutes remaining, Poole tried in vain to get the equaliser but could not find a way through.

This was the first Bridport side to win the County Cup at Youth level and it was fully deserved.
