IT WAS a dry morning for the Thursday competition. This was the third round of the Holmes Cup and 53 players took the field for this medal off the white tees.
There was some steady, very close scoring at the top of Division One with no one quite getting into the 60s.
Winner of that division, Dave Rendell got very near with his nett score of 70, closely followed by Roger Pollock with a nett 71.
The scoring pattern in Division Two was very different with a chasm between the two leaders and their closest rival.
Ian Perry and John Pitchford carded identical scores of 89-21=68 with the former winning on countback.
There was then an eight-shot gap between them and the rest of their division.
Division One: 1 Dave Rendell (88-18=70), 2 Roger Pollock (91-20=71), 3 (acb) Richard Parry (91-19=72), 4 Peter Marshall (81-9=72 – lowest gross).
Division Two: 1 (acb) Ian Perry (89-21=68), 2 John Pitchford (89-21=68), 3 Dave Boggis (97-21=76), 4 Dave Cotgrove (105-27=78).
n Perry and Pitchford both received a one-shot handicap cut.
The results of two home inter-club matches were both wins for Bridport
Against DG&CC the home team won 3½-2½ and against Weymouth. Bridport retained the Nantes Salver by winning 4-2.

SATURDAY and Tuesday ladies joined in the fun of the Hickory Day, one of the special events to mark the 125 years of the golf club and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, writes Di Neal.
Tuesday saw the annual Australian Spoons, a competition for ladies with a handicap of 15 and over where the winners, if their scores are good enough, go on to a regional final.
Although the competition can be played at other times over a period of four weeks, the winners were Roseanne Bonfield and Joan Brake with 34 points.
They were followed by Marion Hurley and Viv Gill on 32, third were Sue Pollock and Wendy Newton carding 30 points and in fourth place were Janie Dowling and Heather Chapman on 29.
Congratulations go to Carole Brown, Nicky Stone, Sue Walsh, Julie Oliver and Toshiko Ricketts who played at Lyme Regis in The Mail on Sunday competition and as they won three and two they progress to the fifth round.
Marion Hurley and Sue Walsh, who played against Axecliffe in the Daily Mail foursomes at Bridport, were successful and they too progress onwards and upwards.
