KILMINGTON 262-8 beat UPLYME 233-9 by 29 runs

UPLYME and Lyme Regis were well beaten in this local derby against Kilmington.

Visiting skipper Steve Batey won the toss and opted to bowl on a green Kilmington wicket.

With cloud cover and the threat of rain, his choice seemed to have been a good one when first Parr and then ex-Uplyme player Alfie Jacques found themselves back in the pavilion with only 20 on the board, both dismissed by Rhys Davies.

Kilmington were in deeper trouble at 106 for 5 as Batey found his bowling form and picked up the wickets of A Rockett and G Harding. However opener D Cook stood firm and completed a patient half century.

Uplyme must have thought his dismissal on 147 was the breakthrough they needed but they did not count on a fine 61-run partnership between captain B Garner (49), and number eight batsman J Short (60). They put on valuable runs to leave the hosts on a competitive final score of 262.

Worried about the lack of depth in his batting and the inability to build partnerships, Batey changed the order and experimented with Mark Brimicombe promoted up the order.

This seemed to have some effect because, after a poor start with Uplyme three wickets down for 27, Brimicombe 34 came together with Tyler Wellman (44) and together they showed some application taking the score towards the 100 mark.

However, when things looked brighter, both batsmen got out in quick succession and it was left to brothers Mark and Steve Batey to sure up the batting.

They seemed to be making a fist of it but Steve went for 18 and then Mark for 28, dismissed by men of the match Garner and Short respectively.

A last-wicket unbeaten stand of 44 between Jack Lamb-Wilson and Neil Price came too late but gave some respectability to the score line.
