BRIDPORT Barracudas were triumphant after competing in the third round of the Jurassic League.

They won by four points and the deciding margin was only achieved in the final events with a battling Wareham team who pushed the Barracudas all the way.

Twelve personal best times were achieved by Bridport swimmers with two club records achieved by Eve Hewitt in the 50-metre backstroke and Henry Wyrill in the 50m breaststroke.

The final round of the Jurassic League will take place at BLC on Saturday, July 9 with cup presentations for winners and runners-up.

The evening will be capped off with a barbecue for all six competing clubs and supporters.

Meanwhile, Mark Hoskins has taken over the role of president for the Dorset Amateur Swimming Association for the next 12 months.

There were also celebrations for Mary Rousell, who was honoured at the Dorset AGM recently and given a long service award for the many years she has spent on poolside.

Mary has held, and still holds, many roles within the club from teaching and coaching, and officiating at many galas over the years.

Rousell has also mentored young volunteers and adults to become timekeepers and judges

She joined Bridport Barracudas in September 1996 after moving down from High Wycombe.

She was the Barracudas’ first full-time head coach, taking up this voluntary role in 1997 and was head coach for approximately five years.

Part of her commitment to swimming has meant that she has spent her 50th, 60th , 70th and most recently her 78th birthday on poolside.
