IT WAS a fine Sunday morning for the men on Sunday and their competition was the President’s Putter Stableford, writes Peter Crowter.

There was a fairly modest entry considering the fine weather.

Prize-winning scores were very close across the divisions but Steve Crabb in Division One scored 38 points to carry off the trophy.

Runner-up in that division was Mike Savage, carding 36 points.

The really close scoring was in Division Two where the top three all scored 37 points but after countback club captain Ian Kearley came out on top.

Also scoring 37 points was the winner of Division Three Brian Osborne.

Veterans' Section

THE Thursday game was the Gutty Trophy, a bogey competition off the yellow tees.

The late Bunny Snellock found an old gutta percha ball in a crevice of one of the stone walls on the course.

He had it mounted on to a trophy and presented it to the veterans, hence the name.

The best scores were turned in by Division One and Dave Boggis won the trophy with a +3 score.

Close behind was Allan Harvey scoring +2.

No one managed a plus score in Division Two but Tony Burwood and Bob Dennis came in with level scores the former winning on count-back.

RESULTS

Division One: 1 Dave Boggis (20) +3, 2 Allan Harvey (17) +2, 3 (acb) Brian Fearon (12) 0, 4 Peter Mowatt (16) 0.

Division Two: 1 (acb) Tony Burwood (23) 0, Bob Dennis (21) 0, 3 Mick Kelson (24) –1, 4 (acb) Kevin Blackman (21) –3.

Ladies' Section

SATURDAY'S Stableford a 'double if you dare' fun competition results in some impressive scores, particularly if you forget the double bit, writes Di Neal.

The winner in the clubhouse was Pat Baldwin with 48 points, closely followed by Avril Brown with 46 points.

Tuesday was Lady Captain's Day and Pat Baldwin did the members proud.

A fourball betterball with a twist was played each player had to contribute the score on nine holes but the choice of who's to use was left up to the pairs.

The theme this year was 125 years of golf at Bridport and quite a few ladies turned up as gentleman, plus fours, caps and ties seemed the order of the day.

There were prizes for the best dressed four, nearest the pin but the loudest cheer was for the winners Pauline Mackie and Marion Hurley who were presented with splendid prizes.
