ADAM Fricker is targeting a top-10 finish as he gets set for his first Toolstation Western League campaign with Bridport.

It’s safe to say that Bridport ended last season under a cloud as they struggled to get a team out and winning just one game out of 19 in the league

But under new management and with plenty of new faces, Fricker is expecting a more successful season.

He remarked: “I’m hoping for a top-10 finish.

“It’s crucial for us to get a great start, but on paper it looks tough.

“But you have to play everyone twice, so it is what it is.

“This season is about getting to know the league as I have never managed in the top tier of the division.

“I’ve played in it and you can get more time on the ball but sides are more clinical.”

First up, though, is an FA Cup clash against Alresford Town on Saturday, which will be Fricker’s first taste of management in the competition having played in it before.

Speaking about the cup, he said: “I’m delighted that we’re starting at home for both the cup and the league.

“We’d all prefer to start with a league game, but it’s an exciting time.

“There’s lads in the squad who have never played in it and it’s a big thing. It’s something to be proud of.

“I’m buzzing and can’t wait to get going.

“Alresford are a decent team who have made a lot of signings and we’ll be going out to win it at the first attempt... not the FA Cup, obviously. If we did that, I think I would retire.”
