THERE was a close finish to Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club’s three-man Team Bowmaker, writes Peter Crowter.

Doug Miners (14), Lewis Craddock (8) and Pat Hart (12) came out on top with 77 points.

Then followed two teams, both with 76 points, and Mike Stirling (26), Michael Huxford (24) and Charles Summers (26) finished second nudging out Martin Horton (13), Ian Thacker (16) and Nathan Dunford (18) into the third spot on countback.

Veterans’ Section

ON THURSDAY, other club members aged over 60 joined members for the annual over-60s Pairs Championship.

This is a four-ball betterball competition with full handicap.

Thirty-two teams took the field and some very good scores were turned in and competition for the prizes was very tight.

Colin Hore (15) and Brian Fearon (12) came out on top with 46 points but after them the next three teams all carded 45 points.

After countback, John White (8) and Robert Harris (21) were the runners-up and taking third place, also after countback were Jimmy Gbadebo (13) and Malcolm Noble (17).

Just missing out on countback were Guy Barnes (19) and Gil Roberts (25).

Ladies’ Section

SATURDAY and Tuesday saw ladies playing either a EG Medal and the sixth round of the

Centenary Cup or the Andrews Cup.

Viv Gill was the winner of the September LGU Medal for the lowest nett score, while the Andrews Cup was claimed by Carole Hedley on countback from Di Neal

Division One: Toshika Ricketts (92-16=76), 2 Carole Brown (94-15=79)

Division Two: 1 Viv Gill (100-27=73), 2 Jane White (103-29=74)

Division Three: 1 Eleanor Butler (106-30=76), 2 Pauline Mackie (112-32=80)

Wednesday saw the annual three-team Bowmaker and prizes were given for nearest the pin, front nine, back nine and the best four scores.

The winners were from the Dorset Golf and Country Club and Bramshaw with 76 points.

The runners-up on 71 points were a team from Wheathill.

The Summer Pairs final was incredibly close with Sue Walsh and Julie Oliver winning with the last putt on the 18th. Pat Baldwin and Marion Hurley just missed out in second place.
