SEATON’S men’s B team, led by Jason Martin, were promoted this week after beating Tiverton 6-2.

The team follows the ladies’ B team in being promoted by holding division champions Victoria Park to a 4-4 draw.

The mixed B team could also have been promoted had David Lloyd not fielded such a strong team to beat them and pip them to the top spot.

So the Summer Leagues of 2016 have been all about the Bs, after last year’s successes of the

Cs.

Individual success was achieved by Derek Blackmore, who is the new Somerset Over-35s County champion.

He beat a much younger Simon Woodhill in the final at the Taunton Tennis Centre.

Jan Waller represented Dorset in the Over 60s against South Wales recently.

Waller won her doubles match, helping Dorset win the overall title.

Emma Hurst represented Devon in the Summer County Cup in July playing with Torquay’s Kendal Brown, winning 14 out of their 15 matches.

She will be competing in

ITF events during the next months.

The club is also reaching the ambitious targets it set itself when Sport England agreed the grant to extend the clubhouse.

Analysis of the number of players using the club shows a 25 per cent increase from 2014 to 2015, partly due to better weather but mainly due to the increased coaching sessions organised by head coach, Jason Martin.

There have been social and competitive tournaments, box leagues and many more opportunities for juniors to enjoy tennis fun and games.

The figures for 2016 are likely to be even higher and will mean the club have fulfilled their aspirations of enabling many more people in the community to enjoy tennis.
