BRIDPORT boss Adam Fricker is delighted that one of their most potent attacking threats has decided to stay at the club after receiving an approach from league rivals Willand Rovers.

Ed Butcher has been one the Bees’ linchpins this season having appeared in every game so far and has impressed.

The attacking winger has decided to stay on at St Mary’s Field and will be part of the team that is set to travel to Chipping Sodbury Town on Saturday (3pm).

Speaking about Butcher, Fricker said: “He’s decided to stay and it’s good news.

“We didn’t want to lose him and he is still learning.

“He’s a local lad and we’re pleased he’s chosen to stay.

“It gives us confidence as well because players are turning down these moves to play for us.”

Newly-promoted Chipping Sodbury sit 10th in the Western League and Fricker has had some experience against them having played them twice last season with former club Chard.

“They’re going to be pretty similar to last season,” he explained. “They have a good pitch and they like to get the ball down and play.

“We’ve got a couple missing for Saturday. Obviously, Andy Martin (who dislocated his shoulder last weekend) is long term and Tom Blair is going to be missing. Mark Salter will be missing as well.

“But Gary Bulman and Ryan Hayter will return, so we’re confident of getting a result.”

Last time out, the Bees battled hard in a 3-1 loss to Bristol Manor Farm.
