BRIDPORT feel no extra pressure to secure three points against Honiton Town in their rearranged South West Peninsula League Premier East derby on Saturday (3pm).

In the original fixture, Bridport led 4-1 before a floodlight failure forced the game’s abandonment.

As a token of goodwill, Bridport are offering fans free entry to this weekend’s match at St Mary’s Field, weather permitting.

And the league game comes off the back of Bridport’s agonising 2-1 Dorset Senior Cup semi-final loss to Hamworthy Rec, in which they battled for more than a half with 10 men.

Speaking to the Bridport News, boss Chris Herbst denied there was extra burden on his team to repeat the winning position built against Honiton before the floodlight malfunction.

“No, I just want to get some games on in the league,” he admitted.

“(The cup loss) will hopefully spur us on. In the dressing room we were disappointed but I said we had to bottle this up and take it into the league and the other semi-final.

“The lads are really determined now and I’m quite confident that we should be getting three points.”

The teams have since contested a 1-1 draw, with Honiton denied victory by Fred Parsons’ 97th-minute equaliser.

Herbst added: “We didn’t play well that game, we didn’t handle how they played.

“So, I’ve got into the lads already because I want them to get their minds on it.”

Bridport still have 13 league matches plus a minimum of one cup match to play in just two months before the end of the season.

Asked how concerned he is by the fixture pile-up, Herbst said: “I feel like a good run of games, Saturday-Tuesday to rotate the squad will benefit us more.

“The fitness into the lads as well, we’re chomping at the bit to play these league games.

“I don’t think there’s going to be an issue yet, but if we get any more off, meaning Saturday-Tuesday and potentially Thursday, that would be an issue.”

Riley Weedon (groin) should be fit, but Will Gape (groin) is doubtful.
