UPLYME & LYME REGIS 277-9 (20pts) beat NORTH DEVON II 220 (9pts) by 57 runs

UPLYME & Lyme Regis piled on the runs on their way to securing a maximum-point victory over North Devon Seconds at the King George V Playing Fields.

Uplyme skipper Sam Farrow won the toss and chose to bat first, although the hosts had to rebuild from 29-2 when Alfie Jaques (20) and Joe Elsworth (0) departed to Josh Atkinson (2-46) in quick succession.

However, they encountered little trouble thereafter as Australian all-rounder Preston Hilless (46) and Tyler Wellman (41) both scored freely before David Hartley (2-61) removed the pair.

Uplyme were by now on 121-4 but the hosts accelerated once more as Farrow and Mark Batey combined to devastating effect.

The duo both registered half-centuries, Farrow (50) first doing the majority of the scoring in an 87-run stand before Mohammed Miah (3-41) brought about his demise.

Batey (63) then picked up the baton and mirrored Farrow in taking control of a partnership, this time with Andrew Harrison, before Miah had him caught.

With one last push from Harrison (28), Uplyme surpassed a score of six per over, ending on 277-9 after Miah forced Jack Lamb-Wilson into a rare hit-wicket dismissal.

North Devon were in big trouble at 38-4 in their reply, Elsworth (2-22) removing two of the top five batters.

Reuben Windley offered some resistance but Uplyme were able to work around his endeavour, further reducing the visitors to 113-6.

However, when Windley eventually holed out off Hilless (3-50) for a well-made 79, North Devon were 170-7 and staring down the barrel of a heavy defeat.

Late hitting from Muzahidul Islam (20) and Miah (43) took North Devon over 200 but Harrison (2-58) ensured Uplyme avoided an unlikely defeat and wrapped up maximum points by dismissing the duo.

Next up for Uplyme, who strengthen their position in third place in the Devon League C Division East table, is a trip to Alphington & Countess Wear on Saturday (1pm).
