LYME REGIS 4

COLYTON 3

LYME Regis produced one of their more determined displays of the season to beat Colyton 4-3 with virtually the last kick of the game at Davey Fort.

After the victory, defender Alex Rowe announced his retirement after more than a decade with the Seasiders.

Under caretaker boss Chris Higgs, Lyme began well as Josh Rawlins scored with a free header from a corner.

Jake Richards equalised from a 20-yard screamer but the visitors switched off defensively as Lyme then made it 2-1 with a run and cross down the left that picked out Cam Fowler to tap in unmarked at the far post.

Better still was to come for Lyme, who made it 3-1 at half-time when Dan Beer touched home from a free-kick.

In the second half, Colyton showed why they reside in third spot with a spirited fightback.

First, Billy Knox beat Seasiders’ keeper Will Meech in a one-on-one before Bobby Henderson slammed home for 3-3 after a goalmouth scramble.

Colyton were reduced to 10 men when Jake Richards was sent off and the stage was set, after heavy Lyme pressure, for Rawlins to force the winner from a free-kick.

Higgs said: “The lads have had enough of not playing how they should do. I just said to them to leave it all out on the pitch, there wasn’t much to it.

“We tried to make Colyton play around us, stay as a unit and look for free-kicks, score from set-plays. Everyone else had a free role and it was quality to watch.”
